1 Samuel 8-15
Memorize and recite this verse with your children throughout the week
"I will raise up your offspring after you, ... and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever."
- 2 Samuel 7:12-13
Watch the video below with your children.
Take time with your family to discuss these questions (or variations of these questions) together, and reflect on this week’s truth and Word.
Why did the Israelites want a king other than God? Why was this a bad decision?
TakeawayOur good God is the only king we need.
How did Saul disobey God's good rules? Whom was Saul trying to please with his choices? What are some ways we might feel tempted to please others instead of God?
TakeawayWe should obey God's good rules because pleasing God is always more important than pleasing people.
When the Israelites and Saul both rejected God and his rules, did that stop God's good plan? When the Jews rejected Jesus as King and crucified him, did that stop God's good plan?
TakeawayEven when people reject God's rule, it cannot stop God's good plan.
As your family reflects on the truths you learned in this week’s lesson, pray together.
Here are some questions to get you started...
- What did I learn about God that I can praise Him for?
- What sins and weaknesses can I confess to God?
- What promises can I thank God for?
Keep going
The story runs on.
Every guide follows the one storyline of Scripture, week by week. Guide 26 sits in part 2, history.
