About  /  our story

Two congregations,
one church family.

New Covenant Presbyterian Church was formed to gather a scattered people, as two congregations were joined and received into one church.

The short version

New Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) was formed by the joining and receiving of two congregations: Grace Community Presbyterian Church (GCPC) and Open Door Community Church (ODCC). Joining and receiving is the Presbyterian Church in America's own way for two churches to become one, done through the presbytery rather than by agreement between the two alone. Neither church absorbed the other: the presbytery formed one new congregation from both. What began as separate works is now one church, gathered around the Word of God and the covenant of grace.

NCPC was inaugurated on July 6, 2025 with a formal Inaugural Worship and Installation Service, held at Jesus Hope Church, who gave us their room for the day. Worship moved to 4645 Kimball Bridge Road in Johns Creek later that month, and we celebrate our anniversary each year on the first Sunday of July.

Open Door and New Covenant both began as guests in another church's building. Open Door's first service was at Perimeter East Presbyterian in Tucker in 1991; New Covenant's was at Jesus Hope Church in 2025. Neither started with a room of its own.

We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, a member of Georgia Foothills Presbytery, holding to the Westminster Confession of Faith together with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms.

How we came to be
1991 January
Open Door Community Church begins. A small group of Korean-American post-college singles gathers for its first service at Perimeter East Presbyterian Church in Tucker, under Rev. Dwight Linton, a longtime missionary to Korea whose love for Asian Americans began the work.
1996
Open Door ordains its first elders, under Rev. William Y. T. Jin.
2006 November
Property of its own, after fifteen years. Open Door buys property in the Alpharetta and Johns Creek area, having been a gathered and pastored congregation for fifteen years before it owned a place of its own.
2013
Grace Community Presbyterian Church begins as a mission work of the Presbyterian Church in America.
2023
GCPC is particularized, organized as a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America on its tenth anniversary.
2025 April
A joint Easter. The two congregations keep Easter in one service, before the joining and receiving was complete.
2025 July
New Covenant Presbyterian Church. The joining and receiving is complete, with the installation of pastors, elders and deacons at an Inaugural Worship and Installation Service on July 6.
Today
Grounded in Truth, Abounding in Grace. One church family pursuing biblical teaching, covenant community, a Kingdom mindset, and a life of discipleship.
