The Fiery Furnace

Daniel 3. Part 3 of the story, poetry and prophets. This guide went out for Sunday November 9, 2025.

Big truth

Reinforce this truth throughout the week and during your study.

God’s people should put God first no matter what.

Daniel 3

Memory verse

- Exodus 20:4

Video

Watch the video below with your children.

Discussion

Take time with your family to discuss these questions (or variations of these questions) together, and reflect on this week’s truth and Word.

What are some ways it can be hard to obey God when no one around you believes in God? Where were Daniel and his three friends living in our story? How do you think they knew how to live for God when those around them did not?

TakeawayGod’s people must learn to live for God even when those around them don’t.

What do the first two commandments tell us about God? What was the rule Nebuchadnezzar made that all people had to obey? What did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego decide to do?

TakeawayPut God first no matter what.

What was the punishment the men faced for obeying God’s command and disobeying Nebuchadnezzar’s command? In the New Testament, what similar test did Jesus face for obeying God? How could Jesus have avoided his death on the cross?

TakeawayLike Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Jesus faced death for obeying God.

When God rescued Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, did they still die from the flames? How was Jesus’s rescue different? What does it mean for you and me that God rescued Jesus by raising him from the dead?

TakeawayWhen God rescued Jesus by raising him from the dead, he also rescued all that follow Jesus.

Pray

As your family reflects on the truths you learned in this week’s lesson, pray together.

Here are some questions to get you started...

  1. What did I learn about God that I can praise Him for?
  2. What sins and weaknesses can I confess to God?
  3. What promises can I thank God for?

Keep going

The story runs on.
